Dear Parishioners of St. Lurach's and Killelagh,
Both Select Vestries recommended to the Derry Diocesan Council that our two parishes would come together in the form of a Union.
They agreed with the proposal and recommended the Union to the Representative Church Body in Dublin who also agreed.
I quote from an email from the Representative Church Body
"That as recommended by Derry Diocesan Council the following be approved:
The dissolution of the group of parishes comprising Maghera and Killelagh and the formation of a Union comprising the parishes of Maghera and Killelagh with effect from 26 March 2017."
In my view this is a very positive outcome for both parishes as it will bring together the two Anglican churches in the area in co-operation and fellowship. Last but not least it will provide Killelagh Parish long-term security.
This will mean that there will be one Select Vestry with parishioners appointed from both parishes and its new name will be "The Parish of St. Lurach's, Maghera and Killelagh.
Your Rector & friend,
The Rev. Terence P Kerr
